About Building Details

Michael Derrig has been building homes on the East End since 2000. Initially an organic extension of his successful Landscape Architecture firm, Landscape Details, Building Details opened officially in 2018, as a luxury residential design and construction firm located in East Hampton and has been quickly gaining a reputation for designing and building some of the most notable homes on the East End.

Bringing extraordinary focus and perfectionism to Building Details has resulted in the highest caliber construction and custom craftsmanship. Derrig has built a reputation for approaching traditional Hamptons architecture with a unique modern flair. With meticulous cabinetry, bespoke interior and exterior joinery, and refreshing materials sourced from around the world, each project ultimately reflects the client’s vision and his sought after aesthetic. He works closely with leading architects and designers in the New York area and beyond.

Derrig received his BS in Landscape Architecture from Rutgers University where he graduated cum laude. He brings a unique sensitivity to the environment and an understanding of the landscape of the East End, to each project. Building Details has been recognized in the Hamptons, for its sensitivity to the relationship between interiors and their natural surrounds.

Bryan Von Hagn, Vice President

Bryan Von Hagn moved to the east end full time in 2010. His passion for construction and residential building started at a young age, following his father from one busy construction site to another. After purchasing his first investment property 25 years ago, he continued to focus on real estate – handling Manhattan condominium conversions and multi-unit apartment buildings. Eventually, his love of woodworking led him to open a cabinetry shop in Hoboken, N.J., in the early 2000’s. Von Hagn also spent over twenty years working as a Director for a number of global financial institutions. His finance background coupled with his experience in construction and development proved an ideal combination as he made a career of building and renovating homes from Southampton to Montauk.

Bryan Von Hagn is committed to community and has been a driving force behind improving the permitting process in North Haven Village as Chairman of their Planning Board.

With his analytical background, construction experience, attention to detail, and open minded and responsive nature, Von Hagn brings knowledge and a concierge-level of service to our clients. In his spare time, Von Hagn embraces a healthy lifestyle with his family, and volunteers in the community.
